Frequently Asked Questions
Italian olive oil, fresh truffles, truffle sauces — and the family behind it all. Everything you want to know about Milan Truffle, from Sicily to your table.
Because extra virgin olive oil is the highest grade of olive oil — cold-pressed from fresh olives, full of natural flavor, bright and green and peppery. One drizzle transforms pasta, eggs, and bread into something memorable. This is the ingredient that turns a meal into a moment.
Real extra virgin olive oil has three unmistakable signs: a green-gold color in the light, a fresh-grass aroma when you open the bottle, and a peppery kick at the back of your throat. That kick means the olives were picked young and pressed fast. It's not a flaw — it's the olive oil saying hello.
Extra virgin is the highest grade of olive oil, made from the first mechanical press of fresh olives with no heat, no chemicals, and no refining. The standard is strict — the oil must pass both chemical and taste tests to earn the name. Only about 10% of the world's olive oil qualifies. Milan Truffle oils are all extra virgin, made in Italy.
Not always. Some bottles labeled Italian are only bottled in Italy from olives grown elsewhere. Milan Truffle's Italian extra virgin olive oils are grown in Italian groves, pressed at Italian mills, and shipped from our Miami warehouse to your door. Direct from Italy, in every sense of the phrase.
Bread and oil. Pour a little into a small dish, dip a piece of good bread, add a pinch of salt. That's it. From there: over scrambled eggs, on top of pasta right before serving, over a salad with nothing else. Extra virgin olive oil doesn't need recipes. It needs a moment.
Milan Truffle was born in Sicily, in a small town called Palma di Montechiaro — founded in 1637 and made famous by one of Italy's greatest novels, The Leopard. Our family has been there for three centuries, from the town's very beginning, and we still own our olive farm there today. Italy is a patchwork of regions, so we travel, we taste, we choose — bringing you the very best extra virgin olive oils from across Italy.
Milan Truffle offers three Italian products: fresh truffles in season, truffle olive oils (Black Truffle EVOO and White Truffle EVOO in 250ml bottles), and truffle sauces ready to stir, spoon, and serve. Three doorways into Italy, one family behind them all.
A truffle is a rare wild fungus that grows underground, hidden beneath oak, hazelnut, and poplar trees. You don't plant a truffle — you hunt it, with trained dogs and patient hunters who know the land. When the season opens in Italy, the best truffles get unearthed, inspected, weighed, and shipped the same day.
Milan Truffle carries every major Italian variety, depending on season: White Truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico), Black Winter Truffle (Tuber melanosporum), Summer Truffle (Tuber aestivum), Bianchetto (Tuber borchii), and Autumn Truffle (Tuber uncinatum). Each one has its moment of the year. Each one brings something unforgettable to the table.
Truffles live by the calendar. White Truffle season runs October through December with peak magic in November. Black Winter Truffle runs November through March. Summer Truffle is available May through September. Bianchetto appears in late winter, Autumn Truffle from September through December. Check current in-stock varieties — somewhere in Italy, the hunt is always on.
When fresh truffles aren't in season, Milan Truffle's Italian truffle olive oils and truffle sauces take the stage. They capture the aroma and flavor of the real thing, preserved and ready whenever you want to elevate a dish. You don't have to wait for November to cook like an Italian — you just open a bottle.
Italian extra virgin olive oil, natural flavor, and real Italian truffles. That's it. White Truffle EVOO 250ml ($45) is made with Tuber Magnatum Pico — pungent, aromatic, magic. Black Truffle EVOO 250ml ($32) is made with Tuber aestivum Vitt. — earthy, deep, savory. Both are imported direct from Italy.
Yes. Real Italian truffles go into every bottle, alongside Italian extra virgin olive oil and natural flavor. That's what gives our oils their authentic aroma and depth. No shortcuts, no mystery ingredients — just real truffle, real EVOO, and the craftsmanship of making them sing together.
Yes. Both Milan Truffle's Black Truffle EVOO 250ml and White Truffle EVOO 250ml are officially certified vegan by Vegan Action. That certification means every ingredient and every processing aid in the bottle is plant-based — verified through signed documentation from each partner in our Italian supply chain. If you cook vegan, you can finish a dish with Milan Truffle truffle oil without a second thought.
Choose by mood and dish. Black Truffle EVOO is earthy and deep — made for pasta, risotto, roasted potatoes, steak, and mushroom dishes. White Truffle EVOO is bright and aromatic — made for eggs, pizza, popcorn, fresh pasta, and creamy polenta. Black is the cozy Sunday dinner. White is the Saturday night that turns into a dinner party.
No — truffle oil is a finishing oil, drizzled over food after the cooking is done. Heat destroys the aroma in seconds, so 1–2 teaspoons at the final moment is all you need. That's the secret that separates people who know from people who don't — the magic lives in the last moment before the plate hits the table.
Start with one teaspoon per serving and adjust to taste. Truffle oil is concentrated and confident — a few drops transform a dish, a little more makes it unforgettable. You learn your own rhythm after the first bottle.
Milan Truffle's Italian truffle sauces are your shortcut to Italy on a Tuesday. Stir into warm pasta, spread on crostini, spoon over scrambled eggs, fold into risotto, top a baked potato. Made in Italy with real truffle and Italian ingredients, they turn a 10-minute meal into something you'd pay for at a restaurant — and you made it at home.
Choose by the dish you're making. Lighter, more aromatic sauces work best with fresh pasta, risotto, and delicate preparations. Richer, earthier sauces belong with meat, mushrooms, and robust flavors. Each sauce gives a different intensity, so browse the sauces and match the one that fits your table.
Slice fresh truffles thin and serve them raw over a finished dish. The tool is called a truffle shaver — a small mandoline you can buy for $15–25. If you don't have one, a vegetable peeler works for paper-thin slices. White truffles belong over warm pasta, risotto, scrambled eggs, or creamy polenta. Black truffles love the same, plus gentle warmth in butter sauces.
A quality truffle has a strong, unmistakable aroma — earthy, musky, garlicky, a little wild. White truffles are sharp and electric. Black truffles are deep and grounded. If you catch yourself closing your eyes on the first inhale, that's how you know.
White Truffles hold their peak for 4–5 days after delivery. Black Winter Truffles give you 7–10 days. Wrap each one in a dry paper towel, keep them in an airtight glass container in the coldest corner of your fridge (34–38°F), and change the towel daily. Use them soon. Use them often.
Milan Truffle's truffle olive oils keep their full flavor for 12–18 months unopened, and about 6 months once opened. Truffle sauces last to the best-by date on the jar — usually 12–24 months unopened — and a few weeks in the fridge after opening. Store oils cool and dark. Store opened sauces cold.
No. Truffle oil stores best in a cool, dark cabinet — away from the stove, sunlight, and heat. The fridge actually changes the texture and dulls the aroma. Just keep the cap tight between uses, and your oil stays exactly the way Italy sent it.

Real truffle isn't made — it's found. It grows wild, underground, where no human hand can plant it. A trained dog and a patient hunter walk the Italian forests in the cold before dawn to find a few grams of the real thing. Multiply that by seasonal scarcity, airfreight, and cold chain — and you're tasting something that no shortcut can copy. The price reflects the reality, not the markup.

The Lumia family. Three centuries in Palma di Montechiaro, Sicily — the town our ancestors helped build. Today we bridge two worlds: Italy, where the olives grow and the truffles hide, and Miami, where we ship from to your door. We're dual Italian-American citizens, family-run, and obsessed with sending you the real Italy — the one we grew up in.
Because every bottle, jar, and truffle we send carries three centuries of Sicilian heritage, direct-from-Italy sourcing, and the conviction that food should make you feel something. This isn't a catalog — it's an invitation. To cook like you mean it. To gather people around the table. To taste Italy the way Italy tastes itself. Welcome to Milan Truffle.
