Sometimes the most extraordinary dishes require almost no preparation at all. This is one of them. Just two ingredients — aged Parmigiano Reggiano and a few drops of truffle balsamic condiment — create a combination that is simple, refined, and unforgettable.
The rich, crystalline texture of Parmigiano pairs beautifully with the deep aroma of truffle. In seconds, this pairing becomes an elegant aperitivo, a sophisticated snack, or a luxurious addition to a cheese board. For cheese board inspiration, Food & Wine covers Italian aperitivo traditions extensively.
Ingredients (serves 4)
- 300 g Parmigiano Reggiano, medium-aged
- Italian truffle balsamic condiment, to taste
Method
Break or cut the Parmigiano Reggiano into irregular pieces and arrange them in a bowl or on a serving plate.
Drizzle a few drops of truffle balsamic condiment over each piece just before serving.
Tips
Use a medium-aged Parmigiano for the best balance — young enough to be slightly yielding, aged enough to have crystalline texture and depth. The aroma of truffle enhances the cheese naturally, requiring nothing more than a delicate drizzle. Look for a truffle balsamic built on authentic Italian balsamic tradition — the IGP and DOP standards that define what balsamic means in Italy.
